Safdar Jang's Tomb, by a Delhi draughtsman, 1787-90. Nawab Safdar Jang inherited the governorship of the Subha of Avadh from his Father-in-Law Sadat Khan Burhan-Al-mUlk in 1739. When he died in 1753 his son Nawab Shujauddaula moved his body back to Delhi where he built for him in 1753-54 the last great Mughal tomb. It was based on the model of Humayun's Tomb, with a domed tomb square in plan centered in char bagh garden. The drawing was done for lieut. William Stewart when he was deputy commandant of the escort to the Resident at Sindhia's court 1787-90.
